The world of publishing is changing, and you’ve already begun to realize it. 10 Crucial Strategies for Building a Better Business Website | Social Media Today.

The simple fact is Appearance brings interest. So without a website that is visually pleasing, the customer loses interest rather quickly. Who says “You can’t judge a book by it’s cover?” Same principle applies with websites. If it too cluttered or lacks depth, the viewer moves on.  Then sharing that site to the world by using social media connections is crucial. Some great tips in this previous post.  Anyone that has a business website should look this article over.

Using Social Media to Promote Your Product

marketing1

Let me tell you that using social media to market your business should be on your top priority. Most social media sites are great for marketing but must be used on a continuous basis. Whether you are marketing a book you written or a product, social media is the largest marketing platform available for business owners worldwide.  Below are three important things to consider in your strategic marketing plan.

What are the differences between social media sites ?
•There are social engaging media sites such as Facebook, My Space, Twitter, Instagram that people use to keep informed with their families and friends.
•Then there are business related social media sites that people use to interact with other businesses or to drive customers to their businesses. These might include Linked In, Empire Avenue, Twitter, Pinterest, Google Plus, Foursquare, You tube, Tumblr, Digg etc..

1. Why use social media marketing?
•Social media marketing should be used just as much as traditional routes of marketing. More and more people are using the internet to shop, do research or plan for the future.
•More Internet users are purchasing more and more books through Nook, Kindle or Kobo E-readers instead of paperback copies.

2. How to be successful at social media marketing?
•To be successful at social media marketing one must do it on a continuous timeframe. You can’t just post one thing on one site and then come back to it a month later.
•You must write engaging content and do it daily, preferable.
•Make sure to get your blog or article noticed by going to the Google Trends search site. Use important keywords in your content. Use those topics or keywords that people are searching for the most. The best way to see what keywords stand out and that are being used by search engines such as google is to use the Google keyword tool. Look for keywords that are low on the list. Use ones that no one else is using.
•Set up as many profiles as you can on different platforms. Don’t just use Facebook. Use everyone that you can. LinkedIn is a great one to be able to set up a person page and then a professional company page.
•Make sure your business can be recognized on Google, Yahoo and other major search engines. You can do this by submitting your site directly to them or through other search engine directories.
•Use forums as much as possible. List your company information, start a new topic relating to your product.
•Build clients by generating leads through all avenues of social media.
•Seach google for websites that will allow you to post free profiles.
•Search twitter, linkedIn, facebook for Author Databases and Literary Sites

3. Differentiate your Product
•Set up a strategic plan and follow through.
•Set up a definite brand that identifies you as a business.
•It is good to have a logo that sets you apart from everyone. Some famous brand logos are Nike, Twitter, Facebook, Google, Linked In, Pinterest, McDonalds, Visa, K-Mart, Fed Ex and Dairy Queen.

Social Media and advertising go hand and hand. Without social media it is impossible to promote your business to the world. With social media you can reach people all over the world with a click of a key. The thing is to find the best route that works for your business and run with it. What works for one person might not work for someone else.

Many Roles of an Author

There are many roles of an author instead of just writing a manuscript. Imagination and research play a big role in writing books; depending on what type of book you want to write. Then of course, you need to find a publisher. There are two types of publishers. 1. Traditional publishers which pay for the whole process and self publishing. 2. With self publishing you can choose a vanity or subsidy publisher that will help with part of your expenses. There are some self publishing companies that will publish your work, but at a fee. Even if they say they are a free publisher, you still have to spend money for different things, including marketing, and buying the books up front.

The traditional route is the hardest and you have to send out numerous queries to agents, books publishers, in hopes that they like your manuscript. This process takes longer and is more time consuming.

There are Many Jobs of the Book Author.

You not only have to write a manuscript, but edit it. This means that is takes a great deal of time, looking over your manuscript, making sure that the sentence structure is sound; that there are no grammatical errors including punctuation, word usage, subject verb agreement, use of modifiers and so on.

Yes you can hire someone to edit your book, but they are going to expect you to clarify things in the book. They cannot rewrite your book for you, they are going to need you to write your own sentences.

Next thing about being an author is that you have to devote time to marketing your book. Yes, Publishers will help you with this when your book is released to the public, but there is a three month time in which they expect you to promote yourself before the initial release date.

Marketing is the worst thing for me. I hate spending countless hours on marketing. Unless you are extremely wealthy and can hire a large staff or publicist to take care of this, you are going to have to market some yourself.

There are several ways to market your book.

1. Through social media

2. Through cold call sales

3. Through newspapers, word of mouth, and post office mailings.

Content Marketing by Blogging

marketing
Marketing comes in different forms. One new way to market yourself is by offering valuable content to the public, which helps your website rankings on Google. You can write articles and post them on article sites or by blogging.

More and more people from all over the world is using the Internet to search for content in several different topics. A new author may search for ways to promote their book by using the Google search engine. Book readers may search the internet by using keywords such as: books, crime, mystery, romance books, etc… which might read readers to your blog.

As an author, you have knowledge to share with others. One way is by writing valuable content on your blog. This is something like writing on a website. There are two main blogging sites that are free to write on. http://Wordpress.com, http://Blogspot.com, and http://thoughts.com/free-blog

Start slowly by writing about things you know. You will be amazed at the topics you can come up with. Make sure you post something on a regular basis. You can post excerpts from your book, offer free tips to other authors, interview other authors about their books. Book readers love to read reviews on books before purchasing them. Your first post could be all about your book and include a picture, excerpt, and buy link.

Then make sure you share your blog on all of your social media sites. If you haven’t started posting on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Goodreads by now, you need to start right away.

So it is important to get your name out there by writing relevant and valuable content about topics such as:
•How to Write a Book
•All about Writing
•Reading
•Marketing tips
•Blogging

Another important way to spread your articles or valuable content is by using Syndication sites. Here is a link that list many syndication sites to use. I know it takes time, but this will help you build a brand for yourself.

Below is a list of places that allow you to post articles for free. On the bottom of your article, don’t forget to mention your website or ways for people to reach you. I suggest choosing a couple and starting there.
