Many Roles of an Author

There are many roles of an author instead of just writing a manuscript. Imagination and research play a big role in writing books; depending on what type of book you want to write. Then of course, you need to find a publisher. There are two types of publishers. 1. Traditional publishers which pay for the whole process and self publishing. 2. With self publishing you can choose a vanity or subsidy publisher that will help with part of your expenses. There are some self publishing companies that will publish your work, but at a fee. Even if they say they are a free publisher, you still have to spend money for different things, including marketing, and buying the books up front.

The traditional route is the hardest and you have to send out numerous queries to agents, books publishers, in hopes that they like your manuscript. This process takes longer and is more time consuming.

There are Many Jobs of the Book Author.

You not only have to write a manuscript, but edit it. This means that is takes a great deal of time, looking over your manuscript, making sure that the sentence structure is sound; that there are no grammatical errors including punctuation, word usage, subject verb agreement, use of modifiers and so on.

Yes you can hire someone to edit your book, but they are going to expect you to clarify things in the book. They cannot rewrite your book for you, they are going to need you to write your own sentences.

Next thing about being an author is that you have to devote time to marketing your book. Yes, Publishers will help you with this when your book is released to the public, but there is a three month time in which they expect you to promote yourself before the initial release date.

Marketing is the worst thing for me. I hate spending countless hours on marketing. Unless you are extremely wealthy and can hire a large staff or publicist to take care of this, you are going to have to market some yourself.

There are several ways to market your book.

1. Through social media

2. Through cold call sales

3. Through newspapers, word of mouth, and post office mailings.

Building Customers through a Contact List

Businessman Giving out Card
Any business needs to know some basic ways to reach their customers. One way is through a contact list. Here is some basic ways to build a network of clients through a contact list.

1. You should have a way for people to sign up for your mailing list. It should be on all of your blogs, websites, social media sites and the works. You can’t gain contacts without it.

2. Simply write down names of people that you have done business with before, either personal or through work. They could be friends, family, colleagues or clients. Also, you could look at past acquaintances such as classmates, neighbors, former bosses or vendors.

3. Ask for referrals through friends, speaking engagements, book signings, or simply word of mouth.

4. Attend writing conferences, book fairs, book festivals and pass out your business cards.

5. Different businesses and schools have contact list that are readily available to the public. It depends on whom you wish to add to your contact list.

6. Ask for feedback and make sure to add a place for them to write down their contact information.

7. Offer people something in return for joining your mailing list. Some people offer giveaways, others offer free advice through videos.

8. Some businesses use mailing list brokers. They normally charge a big fee though.

Now that you have a contact list, you need to be able to organize the list where you can make sense out of it. Use some type of filing system to categorize your list. I hope this helps you in creating a contact list to aid you in your email marketing platform.

Mastering the Art of Success- Guest Post by Ali Rodriguez

FEATURED ARTICLE: Do You Feel Like Quitting?

Oftentimes the road you are taking feels all uphill. In fact, it feels like a battle you cannot win. You are exhausted, confused, and want to be left alone. Does this sound familiar?

Is it time to rest?

Is it time to reflect?

Is it time to analyze?

Is it time to talk it out?

Or is it simply time to quit?

There is NO wrong answer, you know. All the answers are right for you and they are meant to guide you as to what to do next.

In a perfect world you would have all the answers, but then, where is the challenge? Would you be bored?

CONSIDER:
• Are you feeling resistance in doing something you used to love doing?
• Is getting-up from bed more of a chore than a joy.
• Are you no longer counting your blessings?
• Do you seem to forget what all is right with your life?
• Do you tend to focus more on what you don’t have than what you do have?
• Are you complaining more than usual, even if to self, only?
• Do you feel in “lack” rather than “abundance?”

The good news is that this is all perfectly normal because after all, you are human. If you felt completely satisfied all the time, there will be no contrast to your life, therefore, there will be no appreciation; and without appreciation, you would be existing, not living; and you are here to live a life well-lived.

I want to make the distinction that quitting is very different from giving-up.

Quitting may simply signal that it is time for a major shift; while giving-up means walking away from it all; which also sometimes you have to do. Isn’t it fun this thing we call Life? Contrary to popular belief, quitting is an option, and not necessarily a bad one. Quitting a bad marriage or an abusive relationship is a great option, and the results better for you than the alternative.

Understand that this is a normal process calling for you to make immediate changes. Do not ignore it. The little voice inside of you won’t go away, and that is a good thing. Your instincts are looking out for you.

Learn to TRUST your instincts and by all means, follow your Intuition. It is your best friend because it knows you like no other.

OPTIONS:
• Clarify area of discontent.
• Pinpoint it until it is crystal clear in your mind the specific area that is moving you to want to quit. Sometimes it may be a “something” sometimes it may be a “someone” and sometimes it may be both!
• Evaluate how deep your dissatisfaction is.
• Consider the pros and the cons of the present situation.
• Remember you are always in charge about how you feel towards situations, circumstances and people. Feelings CAN be changed.

ACTION PLAN:
• Make a list of your alternatives before you make a final decision.
• Be sure there are more pros than cons at the end of your list.
• Create a plan B, and a C, and a D. and an E for Exit! You get the idea.
• Remember quitting is an option towards something better.
• Act only when you are cool, calm and collected.
• Think about the lessons learned from all of this and yes, write them down.
• Think about what you are about to gain once you move in a different direction.
• Consider who all will be affected by your decision; however, put yourself up-front and center above all things. This life is about YOU.
• Talk to trusted advisors and close friends to help you identify issues, and be supportive during this transition period.
• Remember you are NOT ALONE. This is not the time to be shy about asking for HELP friends, family, and your group of life-lines
• Be mindful that you are in TRANSITION, and as such, it is a process.
• Once you’ve made-up your mind to move forward with your plans, stick to it, and do not look back.
• And no matter what, ALWAYS BE GRATEFUL!

Secrets to Business Success

There are a few things that are a definite step toward success. Whether you are a small business just getting started or a larger corporation, these basic steps will lead you to a successful business.

1. Personal branding is a must for the new entrepreneur.  People need to know what your company or business is all about. Personal branding could be a logo design, trademark, a set of business guidelines, website or place where others come to learn about you.

2. Stay active.  Seems pretty easy and self-explanatory but most often businesses give up before they become successful.  They work hard for the first few months but give up due to lack of resources, time, energy and faith.

3. Research and Take Rapid Action. What this means is that you can do some research about your product.  Find out what sells, who the buyer is, what a good price for your product and then take immediate action. Whatever you need to do to accomplish your end goal is what you need to do.  Don’t wait for someone else to help you, don’t wait for the economy to get better, take swift action now.

4. Market and Advertise your business.  Whatever product or service your business provides, you need to have a marketing plan in place.  Some look at a business plan and write down certain marketing actions that they need to do and follow them.

5. Stay motivated.  Nothing kills a business more than lack of determination. Don’t give up so easily.  Every business will have stumbling blocks in the way. Your job is to find a way around those.  Hang around positive people. Nothing hurts a business owner more than to listen to negative people.
